Nappy pants product test

ThesisBaby and I have been taking part in a Pampers nappy pants product testing trial to see how their pull-ups work for younger rolly but non-walking babies.

So while this post isn't sponsored, Pampers did send us a pack of pull-ups for free to try as part of their Pampers Squad initiative.

Normally I use a combination of reusable all-in one nappies and Pampers Premium Protection. Some days we use more re-usables and sometimes more disposables, it depends on the weather, teething, if we are going out and if it is a nursery day. Both the reusable and disposable nappies have side tapes, so they are traditionally nappy shaped. The product we are testing looks like a pair of undies you pull up and are traditionally seen on older, toddly babies doing potty training.

The product: Pampers Nappy Pants size 4

Things I like about the nappy pants
- soft and stretchy, they seems to fit TB well when she has a milk tummy.
- the designs denoting the front are cute
- pulling them up if the same technique as pulling on tights or leggings, so if you can do that you have the technique.
- it's easier to put the nappy on when TB is on her front, if you can lift a leg.
-if you can get the baby's feet in the right hole they pull up quick....

but... that is a big if!

Because TB doesn't stand she is changed lying down, where she often rolls. With the taped nappies it's just a case of putting down an open nappy and rolling her back on to it when she escapes, then doing up a tape and repeating if she escapes the other way. With the pull-ups I tend to get 1 foot in no problems, and then when I try to catch foot number 2 she rolls and gets tangled. Like with her trousers we also had situations where 1 foot was in and then while I'm trying to catch foot 2 she kicks and wiggles the nappy off and we are back to 0 legs in the right place.

Things I don't like about nappy pants for a non-standing baby;
-you can't prep a nappy and then catch the baby- this can feel like quite a handful
-the baby can get tangled if they roll while you are trying to put their feet in the leg hole, one day TB seemed to twist her knee and screamed.
- you can't adjust the waist band for non-milk-tummy times
- We didn't have any major leaks- but taking off a full nappy id slow. To get the nappy pants off you tear down the side, TB was able to roll out of the open side while the other tape was being opened and she and the nappy contents went sideways.
-I didn't feel confident using them at night
- no wet indicator- this is only a nice to have item but it's a feature I really like in the taped nappies
-They are slightly thicker then out normal nappy- i can only get 2, rather than 3, in our small change bag, again not a major issue but defiantly and inconvenience.

Overall nappy pants have some features I liked , but they are also in our  normal nappies so I didn't feel like I was gaining anything. I can see that they would be useful if you had a standing baby who could step into the nappy but I wasn't sold on the idea for rolly babies.
